I Have Not Worn Shoes in Almost Ten Years
OK, so my headline is a little misleading. I wear shoes every day. I have not worn heavy, uncomfortable shoes in almost ten years though. I wear sandals or mules every day.
I remember when I was back in college I had a very solid wish that I would be in a position one day that I could wear sandals every day. I moved wearing them and would put off wearing regular shoes as far in to autumn as possible. But, for any of you who live in the north, you know there just comes a point in the season where if you do not put warn shoes on your feet, you will risk frost bit. And, you’ll look pretty silly.
Well, now I live in Florida and the weather here in the Bay Area is sub tropical. I can get away with Birkenstocks most days and pretty, dress sandals on other days. I wear light mules for the classroom and I enjoy the fact that I can skip socks and stockings. My feet feel better than ever and my back is healthy, because I am wearing shoes that are good for my posture.
If I move back to where I actually have to endure winter, I will still not go back to the crazy, uncomfortable shoes I used to wear in the name of fashion. If you look hard enough, you can find stylish, cool shoes that don’t make your toes bleed or make your back hurt. Geox shoes have some cute little kitten pumps that still retain a level of comfort. Josef Seibel shoes tend to a more casual dress line, but again – comfort is the key.
Life is way too short to stand around in shoes that make you wince with every step. You don’t have to stop looking pretty just to gain a little comfort. You might have to look harder to find just the right shoe, but I’m all about liberating my feet!
