Take It Slow When Choosing a Web Host
You can’t throw a virtual pebble and not hit a company who sells web hosting. In fact, anyone at all can buy a reseller account and sell their own hosting packages, all without actually owning any servers. Needless to say, the competition is fierce when it comes to working to win the hearts and the pockets of web masters worldwide.
Despite all of the coupons, deals, and claims of the myriad of hosting companies who solicit my business daily, I took almost a full month to do research and find the company I wanted to use for my business web hosting. I read reviews. I did research on contracts and plan details. I asked everyone I knew. I peppered the reps for various companies with questions and scenarios. And all the while, I was looking for the best monetary deals as well.
You have to weigh what features are important to you? Do you need a package that has some hosted scripts for blogs? Do you need ecommerce web hosting? Will you have need for unusually high traffic or bandwidth? Can you design your own site, or do you need to find someone who can help you with the initial website design? Will you need customer service and technical support very often?
The point I really want to you to leave with is that web hosting is a decision you need to make with care. Go slow and make sure you are choosing the company and the plan that will suit your needs and work to make you happy. Weight what is important and don’t waver. For example, customer support was important to me and I ended up choosing a company that has 24/7 tech support located right here in the United States. While you can always opt to change web host at a later date, the changeover can be complicated and cause some downtime. It’s best to be sure before you even start.
