Florida Minimum Wage Rising
As of January 1, Florida will rank 20th in the nation for minimum wage. Our state’s minimum wage will rise to $6.79 per hour from $6.67.
In 2005, Florida voters amended the state constitution and raised the Florida wage from $5.15 (the federal minimum), to $6.15. Part of the amendment said the wage would rise subsequently based on the consumer price index.
In the meantime e, the Federal minimum wage has also gone up a couple times. It is currently $5.85 and on July 24, 2008, it will rise to $6.55. A year later, it will go to $7.25 per hour.
States employers must pay which ever is higher – state or federal, so by July 24, 2009 Florida will have to adjust wages to meet the standard.
