Teacher Accountability

One of the things that the No Child Left Behind program has brought into our school (or attempted to) is accountability for schools. There is more standardized testing than ever. School funding is often based on test results. Teachers and administrators are up in arms about being forced to “teach to the test”.

What about personal accountability for teachers, though? Public school teachers are already barred from talking about religion or spirituality. We are supposed to be sensitive to races, cultures and languages. There are eyes on you at all times.

So, how do you account for Armando Simon, an English teacher at Groveland, Florida?

A Lake County deputy went to the teacher with seventeen parent complaints. Seventeen!! Why? Because aside form just learning English is Simon’s class, you could also learn the finer points of how to get vodka into a watermelon, “how to roll a blunt”, and various porn tips. He also told his class to “go for Goth girls because their low self-esteem makes them easier to get into bed.”

Apparently Simon told the deputy he had already resigned.
