Personal Touch
The internet has revolutionalized so many things.
I rarely send paper letters anymore, in favor of sending e-mails. The downside of that is that you lose the personal touch of a hand written letter. On the other hand, I have time to communicate with more people, more often now.
I’ve never really loved shopping in stores. The crowds annoy me. Now, I do a good bit of shopping online and I end up with better prices, because I am a born comparer of prices and I can comparison shop a whole lot quicker online. Plus, I don’t waste gas bopping around from store to store. Again, though, I lose that personal experience of touching the merchandise.
The travel industry is all but dominated by the internet. Most travel agents do their business online and the competition is fierce, because there are so many bulk travel sites online now. I’m looking for a flight to New York out of Tampa or Orlando and there is no way I am going to sit around and call the individual airlines when I can use a company like Dialaflight and find all manner of flight prices, as well as hotels, car rentals and other vacation reservation information. I’m OK with booking online too, but Dialaflight combines the cut-rate prices you can get at large travel sites with the personal attention of working with a travel agent. It’s the perfect hybrid.
I have not made it up to New York in about a year and a half and I’m itching to see some of my friends and book tickets to a couple of shows. We have excellent theater here in Tampa, but it is absolutely nothing like Broadway.
