It All Comes Down to Florida, Again
At every election time, all eyes tend to be on Florida. We’re a quiet state, but we tend to have an awful lot of political pull, often making the decisions that cement elections. Just think about the fiasco in 2000. That was just the beginning.
Today we have our primary elections. Democrats have unseated our delegates for petty reasons, so our state’s Democrats are largely without a voice. Republicans, on the other hand, have a lot to decide here. McCain and Romney are virtually neck-in-neck, though early voting is putting McCain ahead at this hour. Experts say that if McCain wins Florida, his front-runner position is a given. If Romney wins, the race is still largely up in the air.
Rudy Giuliani has really been counting on Florida and put a lot of effort and money into campaigning here. I heard that of early this morning, he was only at 1%.
Unfortunately, I did not change my registration status in time. I am registered an Independent and since Florida is a closed primary, I cannot vote for a Republican candidate. I register Independent to make a statement, but that is a statement that is lost in Florida. This is one of those states where you have more of a voice if you register Republican or Democrat.
