What’s In My Soap?
Right before Christmas I found this dear little soap maker’s shop in Dunedin. She used to have a home business and recently rented the storefront. I’m thrilled she did, because I was able to do a majority of my small gift buying at her shop. I also bought some for myself: red tea soap, rose & bergamot, and this amazing red juniper soap that I have sitting on my desk right now. It smells so good I have been keeping it near me to scent the office. That’s the red juniper in the picture. Yum.
The lady who makes the soap said she started her hobby turned business because of her own skin issues and her body’s reaction to using commerical detergents. That hit the nail on the hed for me. I am constantly looking for soaps my daughter and I can safely use that still smell great.
Anyway, I have for years wanted to do my own soap making. It is just a matter of gathering all of the right supplies. I have tried some amazing handmade soaps over the years and the ones I have liked best used very high quality ingredients and lots of great essential oils and things that made my skin feel soft and moisturized.
Websites like Elements Bath & Body make it easy to find the items I would need to get started. Before the internet, you would have to hunt down a mail order supplier or buy from expensive hobby and craft shops. You can get elements and ingredients online now, as well as bath and body packaging. I am going to get some of the basics and work on formulating a soap that will be good for my and my daughter to use for our dry skin and eczema. I figure if I am making it myself, I will have no questions about what it really in it.
