He is Rich in Spirit

I absolutely LOVE hearing about the people in this world who are still compelled to do the right thing. I think most of you will agree that every time you turn around, you see someone doing the wrong thing, making selfish choices, and stepping on others to get head.

Well, this story will help a little in restoring your faith.

Last Christmas, a homeless man named Bill Green found a wallet close to his campsite near Riverview, Florida. The wallet was inside of a cloth purse on the side of the road that looked like it had been run over by cards.

The wallet has a $100 bill inside, but no identification.

Now, before I go on, I want all of you to think about what you would have done. How easy would it have been to pocket that cash and go on with your life? Keep in mind that Green is homeless, penniless.

Anyway, after some internal struggling Green set upon a quest to find the owner of the wallet. At first he wondered if God was blessing him with the money, but he knew he wanted to be honest about the situation. He was not sure how to do so, but eventually people at his church, the DayStar Faith Center, helped him in his task. It turns out the wallet belong to a 13-year-old girl named Amanda Zapico of Riverview.

Green and Zapico finally got me to meet face-to-face yesterday, Valentine’s Day.

Zapico surprised Green by telling him he wanted him to have the $100.

“Well, see? The Lord did want me to have it,” Green said. “But he wanted me to have it the right way.”

  1. The story is wonderful, an example of what I see in my child’s middle school everyday. I want people to know that LLT Academy, a Tampa charter school, provides an environment beyond any that I have found in Tampa. The school finds a way to provide excellent education as well as bring their 6 Pillars of Character to the forefront of the school environment: Trustworthiness, Respect, Repsonsibility, Fairness, Caring, and CItizenship. Check out LLT Acadmey for middle and high schoolers - it has made a WORLD of difference in my child’s life. I pray this beautiful experience brings more attention to this wonderful school so more parents are able to see the amazing person their child can be ~ it is a blessing every parent should have.

  2. Thanks for the inspirational story. I hope the church took the man in and helped me to get on his feet.
