Outdoors in Virginia
I was born and raised in Virginia, just over the river from Washington, DC. Despite being right there in the middle of the Beltway culture, growing up was just as much about drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway, apple picking in Warrenton, and the Civil War Battlefields as it was trips to the Smithsonian museums, political parades, and using the Metro to get around.
One of the things I miss about Virginia is the fishing trips dad took me and my sister on several times a year. Southwestern Virginia is lush and green and full of lakes and rivers. In fact, VA boating is some of the best around. There is just something about the trees and moss and river rocks that puts of a sun warmed smell of pure nature. I have more pictures of me with a fish on the line, camping, and practicing archery than I can shake a stick at, because thankfully my dad is an outdoor kind of guy and he made sure the whole family learned to take advantage of our surroundings.
Hey, life in Florida is full of great outdoor activities as well, but they are vastly different than the things we did back in Virginia. I actually hope pone day I can take off and live up there again with my daughter.
