More School Bus Fears
Yesterday I wrote about school busses and their general safety. I referenced the very sad accident in Cottonwood, Minnesota that killed four students.
This morning I saw an article on the St. Petersburg Times website about a report of an attempted abduction. This is just one more issue that makes me leery about letting my daughter ride a school bus, no matter how much she wants to.
A 14-year-old girl said a man tried to abduct her yesterday after she got off her school bus in Madeira Beach. She saw a man standing next to a white van, he called to her, asked to come over to him, but she screamed and ran. Witnesses agree that they saw the van driving around the neighborhood.
This kind of thing happens more than you think. It tends to be men and they troll bus stops and the neighborhoods where children walk home from their stops. It makes me nervous about my own daughter having to walk any distance at all between a bus and home.
