A local TV station in Tampa did an investigative report where they asked people who shop regularly at “dollar stores” like Dollar General and Family Dollar to see what they generally stopped at those stores to buy.

Then, the reporters bought those items, in identical sizes and brands, at both the dollar stores and at a local Wal-Mart. It turns out that while two items on their list were cheaper at the dollar stores, the overall bill was much less expensive at Wal-Mart.

When you take into consideration your time and the current cost of gas, a second stop at a Dollar Store where you are not really saving any money anyway, it makes a lot more sense to do all of your shopping at a one-stop-shop like Wal-Mart or Target.
