Frugal Tip: Wait for Black Friday

There are certain times of the year that items like electronics, jewelry and gift-type items are less expensive. If you are in the market for a new flat screen TV or a new laptop and you can wait to get the best deal, you may as well hold out and take advantage of Thanksgiving specials, especially the Black Friday sales that happen the day after Thanksgiving.

Now, there are a couple of ways you can plan your shopping the day after Thanksgiving. One of those ways is to make sure you get a copy of the newspaper on Thanksgiving Day. Most stores put a circular in the paper that day and you can browse the deals and map out your plan for the next morning.

The other way you can go about planning is to find a reliable Black Friday website that lists all of the sales well ahead of time and plan your shopping around that information. I much prefer the online method, as I have access to the sale info up to a month ahead of time. The website Blackfriday.info actually goes one more step and sends out e-mail alerts when a new Black Friday ad has been posted. And, they provide links so you can do a bulk of your Black Friday shopping online, rather than getting up out of bed to stand in a long line in the cold pre-dawn hours. Last year I actually got up and stood in line at ToysRUs at about 4 a.m. Yuck. It would have been cool to avoid that altogether and still get the excellent deal on the Baby Alive doll that I went to buy.
