Home Schooling
I’m at a moral crossroads.
Last year I went back to school after almost 20 years so that I could get certified to teach in the state of Florida. I enjoyed my classes and I learned a LOT. I love the idea of teaching, too. The problem is that as I spent more time in the local public schools, I realized how much education has changed since I was in school myself. Not only am I hesitant to work in the public school system; I am terrified about my daughter attending a public school!
Before my ex husband left us, I assumed I would home school. Since that is probably not an option I can afford now, I am trying to scrape up the money for my daughter to go to a small, Christian school. Still, I am mourning the idea of being able to teach my daughter in the safety of the home.
I am a huge proponent of home schooling and I admire anyone who undertakes the call. One of my best fiends had five kids and home schooled her three younger children. There are so many amazing resources out there for home schooling parents. One, The Southern Baptist Academy, offers an accredited Christian home school curriculum that is full of multi-media components and solid Christian values and teachings.
Just listen to this quote from their founder:
“Southern Baptist parents across the country are forming an exodus from the public school system. They are reclaiming our children for the cause of Christ. The public school system has betrayed us. It’s time to take matters into our own hands.”

I agree with Ms. Rothschild. I know I might be that teacher that can walk into the public school system and make a difference, but when it really comes down to it, I want better for my daughter.
