Movie Critics Don’t Understand Their Public

You have to wonder about professional movie critics. They use a lot of big words and pan most of the smarter films. But then, a movie actually opens and the box office proves just that it is that the public wants to pay to see.

Case in point would be the new movie 10,000 B.C. The critics pretty much collectively tore it apart. In fact, it made me second-guess going to see the film, even though I had been waiting months for it to come out.

But, guess what happened? 10,000 B.C. made to the top of the charts this weekend and brought in $35.7 million in the United States and $25.3 million in 20 overseas markets.

It just goes to show that the viewing public is sick of political dramas and hard-hitting realism. We want to escape when we plunk down our money for a movie ticket. And, in this case, a whole heck of a lot of people escaped to the days of cavemen.
