Local Bones Not Recent

When human bones were found near Tampa this week at a construction site, the first thing police thought was this could be a potential crime scene.

It turns out that archaeologists determined say the bones are more than 100 years old. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office and state archaeologists will take over to better determine the age of the bones.

Archaeologists estimate they are at least 1,000 years old, and possibly up 12,000 years old.

This gives a whole new meaning to the new movie 10,000 BC to me. I love imagining what life would have been for humans who lives around here that long ago. It’s also fascinating to me that the bones, after so many years, were only six feet below the surface.

Perhaps I missed my calling when I went on that first archeological dig in college and never followed up afterwards.
