All I Want Is a Scanner

I got prepared to scan in all of my tax information from 2006 and the documents I need to file for 2007 when I realized my scanner was no longer working. My dad had agreed to do my taxes for me (he is a tax professional) and wanted everything by tonight.

I checked all of my cables, even switching out my USB in case it had a flaw. I reloaded the scanner’s software and tried different ports. Nothing worked. So, I went on the assumption that my poor scanner was just done with its lot in life and I headed out to buy a new one today.

I had no idea that most stores do not even stock scanners, and if they do, they are expensive. I visited 5 stores (WalMart, Comp USA, Circuit City, Office Depot, and Best Buy) and only two had stand-alone scanners. Everyone else was only offering All-in-One scanner/printer/copier combos.

I just wanted a scanner!

But, it seemed insane to pay MORE for a stand-alone scanner than for a combo printing gizmo. So, I went home.

I just finished all of my scanning, but only because I borrowed my mother’s all-in-one and downloaded the drivers. Insane, I tell you.

Ink is an issue for me. I bought a cheap Lexmark printer when I was back in school last year and it ran me through so much expensive ink that I about choked on my disbelief. Today I found the Kodak Easy Share printer and I am impressed with how little the ink costs. I only want the cheap 5100 model and would have bought it today, but WalMart was out of stock. The other stores I visited only carried more expensive models. So, sometime down the road I will probably order the 510-0 online at WalMart and have it shipped to my local store,

For now, though, my scanning project is done.
