Spring Break

Spring Break means a lot more around here than you might think. To me, it means I need to avoid the beaches for at least a month and a half each year, because we are inundated with college students and vacationing families. The bridges are blocked, the roads are clogged and every condo hotel, and villa in the area is booked solid.

Of course, this also means that people are here in the county spending money and hopefully generating sales taxes. Theoretically, that is a good thing, I don’t feel I see any of the benefit personally, but it should means road repairs are made in a timely manner and such. Unfortunately, I just keep thinking that it means that the people who work for city and county governments will keep getting raises while their work productivity steadily declines. Such is the life of a government employee.

My own daughter’s spring break is next week, but I will predictably stay away from the beaches with her. Well, at least the big, public beaches. Over in Dunedin and Palm Harbor there are a couple of smaller beaches that do not tend to get vacationers. We might head over that way.
