The Reality of Online Degrees
I know I have written in the past about how I enjoyed the online portion of my latest degree. When I was in college the first time, way back in the 80s (yep, you can say it – I’m getting old!), there were not any options to earn a college degree online. In fact, being online was still pretty much a novelty. We had Prodigy at home, but it was mostly a series of bulletin boards and other text-based information pages. The internet was burgeoning and although it was a fun place to communicate with other people about your old issue of Flaming Carrot or your collection of figurines, it was certainly no place to acquire a formal education. In fact, not everyone even took the internet seriously back then.
Times have absolutely changed. You can earn online degrees from most major universities now. In the beginning of the online degree trend, there were just a handful of schools specializing in distance learning and not all of them were universally recognized as being high quality or even legitimate. Now, nearly every institution has an online program that is just as active as the classes on their campus. Although I did not earn my entire degree online last year, I did take several classes over the internet. I found that with a skillful professor, there is plenty of interaction with the other students. I learned just as much in my online courses as I did by sitting right in the classroom for my other courses.
Sites like AboutOnlineDegrees.com have all of the information in one place you could ever need in order to pursue a degree on the internet. They’ve even started an accompanying blog, which will be exploring the recent industry news about distance learning, online degrees, and colleges. If you need information on scholarships or funding, they also promise to address that information. It’s a one-stop information clearinghouse.
