Social Networking for Professionals
Social networking is big right now, VERY big. Although the perception is that only kids have profiles on sites like MySpace and such, there are just as many adults. In fact, a recent trend has come about where professionals are using social networking sites to promote their businesses. The idea is good in concept, but it really just convolutes the purpose of the social networking sites.
Good news for those of you who want to use social networking to promote your trade: the website MyCityFaces.com fills the gap. It was conceptualized with the express idea that everyone needs a place to advertise their business or trade on a professional, yet still social, platform.
The site is still rather new, so you will need to check and see if your local area has a section up and running yet. The Tampa Bay MyCityFaces site is in beta, so some of the entries are simply examples, but it gave me the chance to see what all the hype is about. There are listings for doctors, decorators, hair stylists, and more. Instead of just being a flat business listing, there is room for the individual to fully personalize their space. Best of all, posting a profile is free – just like other social networking sites, but very much unlike most web sites that cater to business people. It’s the perfect hybrid.
If your location is represented, you should go ahead and set up your profile. It’s an effective, free way to get the word out on your services.
