Dress for Success

I just donated a large bag of my old business suits to a local shelter for abused women. My daughter brought some of her nicer toys to give to the shelter, as well. I did not ask for a receipt, because I just wanted to freely give my suits to the women who were there trying to make a new start in life. Besides, after I had my daughter I grew out of my suits. :(

Now, if I had felt like driving over to Tampa, there is an office for an organization that I really have a lot of admiration for when it comes to non-profit groups. Dress for Success collects any clothing and accessories a woman might need to wear to a job interview. They pass these along at no cost to their clients, so the women can bypass what can be a very expensive process: that is, actually buying all of the clothing you need to get your foot in the door for a job in a business setting.

Hey, I know how it is. Now that I need new sizes, I have to start over with suits and dress pants and silk shells. It is an intimidating process, but in al actuality I have the money I can earmark and put aside to save until I have what I need to buy new business clothing. A lot of women find saving for the clothes nearly impossible and that is where Dress for Success saves the day.

Dress for Success is not just local to my area. According to their website, they have “more than 85 affiliates in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.” Not only do they provide suitable business clothing for women who have interviews scheduled, they also have career centers that offer career guidance, training in technology skills, and assistance in job searches.

Our world is seeing such an up rise of women who find themselves suddenly single and raising children. They need to establish careers and earn an income that can support a full household. I know the interview process is only one part of all that, but Dress for Success plays such a vital role in helping women get in the door of the business world. I think they deserve kudos – and all your unused business clothes. :)
