Back to School as an Adult

I thought going back to school at my age to get certified to teach was a challenge. In all actuality, I made it through with flying colors and a nearly perfect GPA. There was a lot of stress, though, and a lot less time to spend with my daughter. She went through a lot of emotional stuff the year I was in school, mostly because I wasn’t home nights and she had to deal with sitters and family members coming in and out to watch her.

Anyway, I say all of this to talk about my friend, Cindy, who is entering medical school at the age of 41. Actually, that is not true. She has to take an awful lot of undergrad courses just to be ready for medical school. She got her B.A. back in the 80s and it is totally unrelated. Talk about mounting a daunting task.

I told her she would have it easier just applying to law school. Plus, there is always room for another divorce attorney or car and truck accident lawyer. I have a fiend up in Gainesville who went to law school at UF in her late-30s and although it took up a lot of time, she enjoyed it and felt like seeing things from am ore mature point of view actually helped her. It also helped that she did not have children. Come to think of it, my friend who is working toward going to medical school does not have children wither. That makes a huge difference.
