Tips for Thrifty Remodeling
As we are getting ready to really get serious about remodeling in the kitchen and in the bathrooms, I came across an article in a magazine that referenced using second-hand fixtures and appliances. Often, you can even find higher quality items when you buy used, because architectural salvage yards are more than just your typical junkyard. And, when comes down to it, you can get the best of the best for 50%-75% off retail.
People sometimes remodel just because they can, and end up tearing out perfectly good high-end appliances like Sub-Zero, Viking and Wolf. You can find antique claw-foot tubs or even showroom models for jet tubs. Also, be on the lookout for cabinetry that was one in model homes. What a bargain.
Two sources to use in finding a location near you are buildingreuse.org and habitat.org.
