Pitiful Lives of the FLDS Girls

I have kept quiet about my opinion regarding the FLDS sect in Texas. Until now.

The latest headline reads: “Half of sect’s teen girls have been pregnant.”

Take into consideration that the girls in question are all between the ages of 14 and 17. They are children. In a regular population, surely there would have been a couple of pregnancies in a group of 53 girls in this age group, but in this group it is OVER HALF.

There are 53 girls in the age group the article focuses on and 31 either have children or are pregnant.

Astounding.

And, I wonder if any of them are legally married? I realize they may see themselves as being in symbolic marriages as second, third, fourth wives (maybe even further down the line). Legally, though, they are single mothers collecting government benefits and draining the tax base. Authorities do not think any of them have legal marriages.

You have to keep in mind that in the state of Texas, where all of these girls live, children under age of 17 cannot consent to sex with an adult. They can get married at 16 with parental permission, but again these girls are not thought o be legally married.

I think the FLDS sect in Texas is deplorable. These girls are being groomed from birth to know only a life where they are married off to an old geezer and have his children. They do not have the security of a stable home life, because “church” leaders can assign wives to move along to a different husband at any given time.

I assume that rape is a valid term in many of these cases. I cannot think of many 14-year-old girls who would relish the idea of a man in his 40s or 50s having sex with them. I cannot see them as being completely willing.
