Family Friendly Home Renovations
When one of my friends started making upgrades in her house and installed wood floors and crown molding by herself, I was disappointed that she had not let me know ahead of time so I could get up there to help her. My generosity is, of course, laced with a healthy doe of selfishness. I wanted to lean how to do those things and I knew her carpenter uncle and had taught her.
Now my friend Michelle is planning to put wood floors in her house, so I’ve heartily volunteer to help. She is pretty much revamping her house. She is putting wood throughout the entire house, save for the bathrooms. She has donated her current furniture to a battered women’s shelter and is shopping for sturdy, discount furniture to replace it. Basically, she is not only looking to make her house appear more attractive, she is also getting it in shape to be able to endure the wear and tear that 4 teenagers will have on the place. Light carpets and delicate couches have not done her any favors so far.
I have enough trouble getting one daughter to pull her fair share in the chore department. Watching Michelle try and motivate four teens to help around the house is like watching someone wrangle cats. I’m learning a lot by watching, though.
