One Clear Dot

I cannot put into words how irritated I get when I see a list o nation and world headlines on one my local TV station’s websites and the speculation about whether or not Angelina Jolie has given birth to her twins yet is up there right alone with news about the political climate in North Korea, Tropical Storm Arthur, and that loony nurse out in Texas show has been putting bleach in the lines of dialysis patients.

Who cares about Angelina’s babies so much that the news would garner a top headline? Seriously. Are there any of you out there who feel that conflicting reports about the birth of the super twins is such a hot bit of breaking news that you need to read about it before you delve into the real news that might actually shape your life?

I’m all for celebrities in the realm of entertainment. When those people start being such a focus for society that they take up valuable headline real estate, I just get indignant. I felt the same way when headlines about Paris Hilton or Britney Spears made the same sort of headline status.

They are just human beings who, in most cases, have not even done anything remarkable. I’m no communist, but I feel that entertainers are often so grossly overpaid that there should be some sort of mandatory percentage they have to give away to the real people in their local communities or something. Share the wealth, I say. When a middle class family of four is struggling in today’s economy, I have no interest in hearing about how the Jolie-Pitt’s are buying some 60-bedroom house in France. It just makes me all itchy.
