Flying? Plan Your Luggage Now
I booked the flight to DC to see my dad at the end of June. I got a decent price, even considering I have to buy a seat for my daughter now. I think I heard I got my tickets purchased about a week before most of the airlines were going to hike up prices across the board to accommodate for the rise in fuel costs.
I booked on Delta, and I was completely upset with myself for forgetting to look at Southwest’s prices. Their seating policy might be a royal pain in the rear, but I heard they have a contract for fuel for the next two years and pay much less than other airlines. I am afraid to look now, though, because if I see that I could have found truly cheap flights on another airline – it will only serve to give me additional stress.
Now, the really tricky part is luggage. I know most of the airlines are charging now if you bring more than two bags that weight under a certain ridiculous amount. My old suitcases are not lightweight even empty, so I might have to spring for new luggage or maybe just use some cloth duffels and worry with wrinkles when I get to my dad’s house.
My mother heard that some airlines are even going to move it back to one checked bag before they start charging you for extra bags. I need to look now and see what the p9licies are so I can plan my luggage situation. I am not planning on taking much. I can wash stuff at my dad’s and as long as I get all of our meds there, we will be fine. I am sure that I will buy a LOT of new clothes when we go to Gabriel Brothers, but I can ship those back UPS and save a lot.
