Donal Logue on Life
When I say Life, I mean NBC’s dram “Life”, although it’s still hard for me not to associate Logue with the show I referred to as Life in the past – “Grounded for Life”. To me, the guy is one of the funniest comedians out there and seeing him in a gritty, dramatic show was great, but I kept waiting for the punch lines. And, I think in very subtle ways he delivered said punch lines.
Certainly, this is not Logue’s first bit outside the comedy box. He’s a good dramatic actor. He brings an every-man quality to the screen, with a side of letch. But when he’s allowed to be funny – that is when he really shines.
While seeing Logue on “Life” is exhilarating, it also serves as a reminder that the very funny “The Knights of Prosperity” got tossed out like the trash. Did you see Knights? It was clever and slick and laced with just the right amount of naivety. It had a breathless humor that felt underused, like using a high limit credit card to buy a pack of gum. What is going on that so many sitcoms are failing these days? The hour-long drama is hands down the king of television lately.
