No Open Lands

I just came back across some pictures I took at my dad’s place this summer with the camera I bought the month before my trip. It has a 20x optical zoom. Not to mention what I can do to increase it with the digital settings. I took a bunch of pictures of the houses being built on the ridge across the river. They came out spectacularly, better than I would have though – especially since the sun was moving behind the ridge and the light was low.

Dad has a pair of Nikon binoculars he leaves sitting inside the front door of the house. There is just so much to see out at his place – deer, birds on the rocks of the river, kayakers traveling by. If I tried to use binoculars here in my own neighborhood, there would be too many houses stopping my view to make it worth the while. If a bird here is far enough away for me to need binoculars, then it is generally behind a house or a privacy fence. No open lands here, my friend.
